Rewards Exist For Whistleblowers

Hoyer Law Group, PLLC, is home to several successful and experienced whistleblower lawyers who prosecute a wide variety of cases relating to health care and government procurement fraud, securities and commodities fraud, tax fraud, bank fraud, and pollution under several state and federal laws that provide rewards to whistleblowers.

Two of our main areas of practice involve health care and education fraud prosecuted under the federal False Claims Act, 31 U.S.C. §§ 3729 to 3733, and many similar state laws. The federal False Claims Act prohibits any person from submitting a false claim for payment to the federal government. A whistleblower (called a “relator”) who has knowledge about the fraud can bring a claim called a qui tam claim on behalf of the government. If the relator is successful and recovers money for the government, the government will pay the relator a reward of up to 30% of the recovery.

Hoyer Law Group, PLLC, is a national leader in the prosecution of education fraud cases under the False Claims Act. Our attorneys have successfully brought cases alleging a variety of fraudulent schemes against several schools and education organizations including Caldwell University, Education Management Corp. (which operates several schools including Art Institutes, South University, Argosy University and Brown-Mackie College), and Education Affiliates (which operates 50 campuses across the country under names including All State Career, Fortis Institute, Fortis College, Tri-State Business Institute Inc., Technical Career Institute Inc., Capps College Inc., Driveco CDL Learning Center, Denver School of Nursing and Saint Paul’s School of Nursing).

To learn more about some of our past education fraud cases, you can read the press releases directly from the Department of Justice: Caldwell University, Education Management Corp., and Education Affiliates.

We have also prosecuted major health care fraud cases and secured millions of dollars for whistleblowers who have bravely taken a stand to protect patients and ensure the viability of Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare.

Our attorneys have taken on more mundane violations of physician self-referral laws, known as the Stark Law, and violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, as well as heartbreaking cases of physicians abusing patients’ trust and providing false diagnoses of cancer in order to bill Medicare and Medicaid for unneeded chemotherapy. This recent case regarding chemotherapy was featured on the CBS Whistleblower Series on July 20, 2018.

If you are aware of fraud against any part of the government, be it fraud against Medicare or Medicaid, procurement fraud against the Department of Defense, or fraud against the Department of Education, call our whistleblower attorneys today at 844-277-1217 or contact us online.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of rewards cases can I file?

Federal and state laws provide rewards for whistleblowers who report to a state or federal government false billing, fraudulent misconduct or certain other violations of law involving:

  • False or fraudulent billing to Medicare and Medicaid
  • Misconduct in government contracts
  • SEC violations
  • Bank or mortgage fraud
  • Misreporting to the IRS
  • Foreign corrupt practices

If you think your case falls in one or more of these categories, don’t wait, call us now for a consultation at 844-277-1217.

What reward can I receive?

Depending upon the type of case you file, rewards can range from 10% to 30% or more of the amount collected by the government. Hoyer Law Group, PLLC’s attorneys have obtained hundreds of millions of dollars for our clients.

What is the process and how long does it take?

We file whistleblower rewards cases with the applicable state or federal government agency, who then investigates the matter confidentially. Although we can file a claim quickly, the government can take months or years to investigate. For sure, the process requires patience! If the government does not proceed with your case, sometimes the law firm representing you can take the case forward on their own. When we consult with you, we will go over the process in much more detail.

My company is committing fraud; what do I do?

We strongly recommend you call a lawyer immediately. Take detailed notes of what you observe and talk with a lawyer about lawfully gathering evidence. Consider reporting the fraud through your employer’s channels as well.

I’m ready to talk, what’s next?

We will consult with you regarding your potential whistleblower rewards case. After we complete our evaluation, we will set up a time to talk with you about the next steps with your case.
