New Laws Can Get You Paid To Stay Home

To help Americans overcome the financial crises caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and ease the burden of having children at home, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”) other assistance if you:

Novel Coronavirus
  • have COVID-19,
  • are caring for a family member with the virus,
  • have children out of school/day care due to COVID-19, or
  • are quarantined by law, a health provider or your employer.

In these situations you may be entitled to:

  1. Two weeks of full-salary emergency paid leave (up to certain caps), plus
  2. Extended FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act leave including a portion of FMLA time partially paid up to 2/3 of your salary, plus
  3. Invoke your accrued paid time off right now, plus
  4. Mandatory telecommuting regardless of your job

New Laws Can Get You Unemployment Immediately

Under the FFCRA, if you lose your job, you are entitled to apply immediately for unemployment, and need not meet any of the usual hurdles (such as even having to prove you are job hunting).

You Are Entitled To Protection From Discrimination And Retaliation

Your employer cannot terminate you because you seek leave under the FFCRA, the Family and Medical Leave Act or any of the new State and Local emergency laws that are being passed every day around the Country.
